Chairperson Mike Molkentine called the meeting to order at 5:07 PM. Minutes recorded by Michael Dreyer, Secretary.


Special Education Coordinator


Rich Pike initiated discussion expressing the need for the board to decide if we are going to have a position for a Special Education Coordinator, an Assistant Principal, or a combination of the two positions.  In an ideal world, he would advocate for both, but he is leaning towards creating a SPED Coordinator position because of the needs.  Discussion ensued.  Concerns and topics included: 

  • available resources to meet growing special education requirements
  • requirements for experienced special education staff resource
  • Mike M handed information on AP/SPED Coordinator position requirements ( Hollis School District ). 
  • Dave asked Laurie and Tony if we created a SPED Coordinator position will we be still be able to handle administrative needs.  Tony and Laurie answered that we would still be able to handle needs.


Budget Session


A budget session with Larry Rodman and James McElroy of the Brookline Finance Committee was convened at 6:15 PM.  The format and structure of the Brookline School District Annual Meeting was discussed.  Peter requested that Board sit at table on floor level (instead of the stage) and requested information that was going to be presented.  He also requested information on issues that would be discussed.  Information on “Sanbornization” was discussed.


Tax impact figures provided by Finance Committee:

  • Overall tax impact if all passed:  $1.29 est
  • Article 3 ( Professional Staff ): $0.43, Article 5 ( Support Staff ): $0.10, and Operating Budget: $0.76.
  • Estimated tax impacts from Coop if all passed: $0.73
  • Estimated tax impacts from Town if all passed: $1.20


Mike D  made a motion to enter Non-Public session per RSA 91-A:3II(c) “Matters which if discussed in public, would likely affect adversely the reputation of any person…” and RSA 91-A:3II(e) “Consideration or negotiation of pending claims or litigation…”.  Mike M seconded.  The motion carried 5-0.  Board entered Non-Public session at 8:10 PM.


Board came back into Public session at 8:55 PM.


Mike D made a motion “To create an administrative Special Education Coordinator position to begin on July 1, 2006.  Beth seconded.  Motion passed 4-1.  Mike M against.


Mike D made a motion “To indemnifya contracted consultant for work to be performed for the Brookline School District providing a written statement of confirmation of coverage by Primex is obtained.”  Mike M seconded.  Motion passed 5-0.


Mike D made a motion to seal minutes of Non-Public Session.  Dave  seconded.  Motion passed 5-0.


Mike M made a motion to adjourn.  Mike D seconded.  Motion passed 5-0.
