Coop Board Workshop

Attending: Pam Kirby, Jim McBride, Tom Enright, Betty Hall, Steve Simons, Chief Richard Darling, Ken DeBenedictis

Chief Darling discussed the background of the school resource officer (PRO).

Tracy Dunn assigned two mornings per week to HS to help support police dept/HS coord.

The Chief had learned about an initiative by several parents in Hollis to add money to the Hollis warrant to support a town funded PRO.

The Chief met with Board of Selectmen to discuss the proposal.

The PRO will be funded from July 1 to December 31.

At the 2006 Town Meetings the officer will be funded on a full-time position.

Tom suggested that at the March, 2006 meeting, the Coop may need to help fund.

The funds needed for the period July 1 to December 31 are $30,000.

The costs for 2006-07 are approximately $54,000. The Coop Board could consider partial funding in the 2006-07 budget. Those possibilities will require further discussion.

Plan:

To request Town of Hollis to fund the position at the March 8th Hollis Town Meeting and to present it to the Coop District Meeting for support.
Steve Simons motioned language for the SRO position. Tom seconded. The motion was subsequently withdrawn.

Tom Enright motioned: The Coop Board supports an SRO in the Coop Schools but is unable to commit to a funding approach at this point. The position is subject to a Memorandum of Understanding to be decided at the March 16th Board meeting and a sense of the meeting approving or disapproving at the March 23rd Annual District Meeting. Jim McBride seconded. Motion carried: 4-1.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM.
